The Manufacturers Standardization Society (MSS) of the Valve and Fittings Industry announces that SP-149-2023, Preformed Elastomeric and Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) V-Ring Packing Sets for Waterworks Valves, has been revised and published by MSS.
Standard Practice (SP)-149 has served the industry for over 27 years; establishing material, surface finish, dimensional and testing requirements for preformed V-ring packing sets, packing chambers and valve stems. This Standard Practice applies to homogeneous elastomeric and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) V-ring packing for gray iron and ductile iron quarter-turn and multiturn valves for waterworks applications with a maximum service temperature of 150°F (66°C). SP-149 continues to be maintained under the consensus of MSS Technical Committee 308, Packing & Gaskets. The revised Standard Practice, MSS SP-149-2023, is available from authorized U.S. and global distributors. It has been published in an electronic version (PDF) and in book format.
