Durable-Goods Orders Increased In August

New orders for manufactured durable goods in August increased $0.3 billion or 0.1% to $224.9 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau announced Wednesday. This increase, up four of the last five months, followed an 8.1% July decrease. Excluding transportation, new orders decreased 0.1%. Excluding defense, new orders increased 0.5%.

Revised seasonally adjusted July figures for all manufacturing industries were: new orders, $483.6 billion (revised from $485.0 billion); shipments, $488.3 billion (revised from $487.6 billion); unfilled orders, $1,032.0 billion (revised from $1,033.9); and total inventories, $629.5 billion (revised from $629.7 billion).
