A series of booms that startled people in south Springfield and as far away as Republic were due to a valve at the Southwest Power Station that released steam sooner than planned, according to City Utilities.
There were around a half-dozen “booms” that occurred Tuesday night and early today, CU spokesman Joel Alexander said.
