Economist Says Energy Sector Will Do Well During Economic Slump PDF Print E-mail

As the nation’s economy remains weak going into 2009, new sectors in construction spending will emerge as winners while many traditional commercial sectors will lag behind, according to Ken Simonson, chief economist of the Associated General Contractors of America.

He said that only a few kinds of projects will be growth areas in the next year. Construction of power-related projects, such as coal-burning and nuclear plants and the addition of transmission lines, will pick up well into next year. Other energy projects, such as ethanol and biodiesel plants, will show solid growth next year, he said.
