Outlook for Recovery Gets a Boost PDF Print E-mail

The outlook for the U.S. economic recovery got a slight boost this week, with a stream of upbeat readings that ended Friday with a report predicting faster growth.

The Conference Board's Leading Economic Index, designed to predict the economy's direction, climbed 0.9% in October, following a 0.1% increase in September.

Improvements in consumer outlook, stock markets and the labor market led to the increase, said Ataman Ozyildirim, a Conference Board economist. He also noted higher industrial production and employment.
