U.S. Nuclear Power Buildup Taking First, Tentative Steps

The shovels are finally in the ground for America's first nuclear-power generating plant in decades.

At a spot near an older atomic plant not far from Augusta, Ga., bulldozers hired by Atlanta-based Southern Co. have begun work on two reactors. It's the beginning of a project that's expected to take seven more years to complete and cost $15 billion.
