Texas Officials, EPA Clash Over Greenhouse Gas

The nation's top environmental regulator on Wednesday defended new rules on greenhouse gas emissions amid fire from congressional Republicans and Texas politicians who said the mandates would cost jobs and handcuff the U.S. economy.

During a heated, daylong hearing, Republican lawmakers assailed Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson and accused the Obama administration of flouting Congress by falling back on the EPA to regulate the heat-trapping gases blamed for global warming.
