China Poised to Take Manufacturing Crown

The American Century is projected to end next year in one key respect: This nation will no longer be the world's largest manufacturer.

The United States, whose manufacturing output topped every nation since the 1890s, is expected to cede that crown to China in 2011, according to projections by IHS Global Insight, an economics consultancy in Waltham, Mass.
