Valve Manufacturers Association to Offer Free Seminars at the New Chem Show

Sessions Round Out Robust Educational Program

The Valve Manufacturers Association (VMA) has announced that it will be presenting two informative educational sessions on the use of valves and actuators in the chemical processing industry during the NEW CHEM SHOW, November 17-19 at the Javits Convention Center in New York City.

Designed for both newcomers to the process industries as well as experienced engineers who need a refresher course in valves and actuators, attendees will benefit from the free 3-hour session that is divided into two parts:

·         Valves 101 – Starts with a broad overview of the valve industry and then narrows its focus on key elements such as valve standards, basic piping information and application issues that are critical to effective valve specification and usage. Detailed discussions of the major valve types, including gate, globe, check, ball, butterfly, plug, control and pressure relief, will provide attendees with valuable knowledge that can be applied in their daily PVF work, whether in sales, as a specifying engineer or an end-user.

·         Actuators 101 – Begins with a description of the various actions, such as linear, rotary, etc., that are employed to operate the valve types discussed in Valves 101. Each actuator type (electric, pneumatic, hydraulic) is defined in expanded detail to impart an understanding of their variations, characteristics and relative technical matters. It provides sufficient information to educate users about their options and to gain a firm understanding of how each actuator type may apply to their specific needs.

“We’re confident the 2009 CHEM SHOW will be an excellent event for all of our members because so many of the top executives and buyers from companies in the chemical process industries will be in attendance,” said William Sandler, president of the VMA. “We’re looking forward to working with show management to make the event the most memorable in its history.”

This session was developed by members of the Valve Manufacturers Association, which represents the majority of U.S. and Canadian valve, actuator and control manufacturers.

Presenters for the Valves 101 and Actuators 101 are:

·         Greg Johnson, President, United Valve, Houston, TX

·         Leon Brooks, Director of Sales for Distributed Valves, Cameron Valves & Measurement, Houston, TX

·         Ed Holtgraver, CEO, QTRCO, Inc., Tomball, TX

·         Paul Souza, Quality Assurance Manager, AUMA Actuators, Inc., Canonsburg, PA

“Valves and actuators are a critical component of the chemical process industries and these sessions will be very beneficial to many of the Show attendees,” said Clay Stevens, President of International Exposition Company, which produces and manages The NEW CHEM SHOW.

These new education sessions will complement a comprehensive offering of educational programming offered during all three days of the 53rd edition of the industry-leading North American processing event.
