Investigation Reveals Cause of Fire at Alberta Oilsands Plant

An internal investigation from Canadian Natural Resources Ltd (CNRL) has revealed that a fire that injured five Alberta workers last month was caused by the opening of a drum valve, which allowed the release of hot hydrocarbons.

At about 3:30 pm on January 6, a fire broke out in CNRL's primary upgrading facility at its Horizon plant north of Fort McMurray, Alberta.
