Tyco International to Separate into Three Companies

Tyco International’s Board of Directors has approved a plan to separate the company into three independent, publicly traded companies, one of which is Tyco Flow Control, a member of VMA. Cameron to Acquire LeTourneau Technologies
Drilling Systems and Offshore Products

Cameron has agreed to acquire LeTourneau Technologies Drilling Systems and Offshore Products divisions from Joy Global Inc. for approximately $375 million. "The addition of LeTourneau’s portfolio of drilling equipment and rig components adds to our existing product offering" and enhances growth possibilities for our drilling systems platform, said Jack Moore, Chairman and CEO of Cameron. Manufacturer Outlook Still Positive, But Optimism Wanes

Overall manufacturing activity has weakened significantly as the year has progressed, mirroring challenges in the larger macroeconomic environment, according to a NAM/Industry Week survey. Even though nearly two-thirds of manufacturers had a positive outlook on the economy, individuals responding to the survey downgraded their expectations for growth moving forward. Read more

As speakers prepared for VMA's Market Outlook Workshop in August of this year, they faced a situation where federal budget battles, a wildly fluctuating stock market, the first-ever downgrading of U.S. credit and other developments had pulled the rug out from under an already sluggish economy. But although the presenters admitted a few predictions may need to be revised, their overall forecast was the same: the valve, actuator and pump market is doing well and poised for a brighter 2012. Travels with VMA

It’s a busy fall for the Valve Manufacturers Association as staff gears up for several industry events. First is the Valve Basics Seminar & Exhibits, Oct. 26-27, at the Embassy Suites Chicago O’Hare-Rosemont. With many early sign-ups, VMA projects that at least 120 attendees will take the Valves & Actuators 101 course. The event includes tabletop exhibits, a “Valve Petting Zoo,” an interactive session on what valves to specify in certain applications, along with lessons on the major valve types, actuators and controls. Our next stop is The CHEM SHOW at the Javits Center in NYC, where VMA will offer a tutorial called “An Introduction to Valves, Actuators and Controls,” Nov. 1, 1:00 – 3:00 pm. You can sign up for this course (ET-03)--which is part of the AiCHe-planned program--at this link. Course registration fees go up after Sept. 30. There is no charge to enter the exhibit hall. In addition, Valve Magazine, VMA and the Valve Repair Council will be exhibiting at the show in booth #544.
