Companies such as Reliance Industries, GAIL Ltd and Haldia Petrochemicals are staring at a severe slackening of demand for petrochemical products both in India and abroad.

The reason is the so-called “converters”, or companies that consume such products, are holding back orders anticipating a fresh decline in prices.
