No One Injured After Explosion at Grede Radford Foundry

None were injured after the holding furnace exploded at the Grede Foundry in Radford, VA just after midnight Sunday morning. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames about two hours after arriving at the scene.

A spokesman for Grede Holdings LLC praised the work of the first-responders and said that the foundry, which employs around 170, won’t be reopened until the cause of the incident has been determined and it’s been deemed safe to return.

After acquiring Virginia Casting Industries in March Grede Holdings took over the facility and renamed it Grede Radford LLC, the company’s 17th foundry in North America and third acquisition in the past year.
