At a recent valve industry event, Mark C. Thompson, CEO and co-founder of Virgin Unite Mentors, asked the audience to define what success meant to them. Over the next several minutes it became obvious that, for many people gathered for the meeting, it was the first time they had actually stopped to consider the question. Certainly most of the individuals in that room were hard-working professionals in engineering, sales and management. But having a job that often involves travel, raising a family and perhaps even taking continuing education courses did not necessarily mean they knew when they would have "arrived." What would that look like?
