Mon, 14 Apr 2025 00:00:00 -0400 Emerson Announces Newest Updates to DeltaV New capabilities help users collaborate across the enterprise for better business outcomes.
Source: Emerson

Emerson has announced the release of version 6.LTS of its DeltaV Mimic dynamic simulation software. The software has been enhanced to support performance and collaboration across the enterprise, helping eliminate silos of data that limit visibility into operator performance and providing tools to create digital twin simulations that deliver continuous value far beyond project execution.

Capital project teams have used simulation software to provide faster return on investment (ROI) during project execution. Investment in simulation often pays for itself well before project completion as a tool for engineering design, automation testing and operator training. However, forward-thinking teams are further increasing ROI across the lifecycle of their simulation technologies by continuously maintaining them after project execution as collaborative, change management workflow solutions. In the new DeltaV Mimic version 6.LTS, users will find a focus on enterprise connectivity and parallel long-term support (LTS) lifecycle strategy for the DeltaV Distributed Control System (DCS) and DeltaV Mimic. Streamlined model tuning and support for virtual controllers and larger simulations will help companies more easily accomplish their goal of implementing these holistic simulation solutions.

“A digital twin simulation is no longer just a discrete asset to deliver project success, but rather a comprehensive tool for continuous collaboration between process and automation engineering, plant management, training management, operations and maintenance, and more,” said Dustin Beebe, vice president of performance services for Emerson’s process systems and solutions business. “DeltaV Mimic version 6.LTS is designed to streamline that evolution, incorporating Emerson’s Boundless Automation vision for seamless data mobility, to break down the silos of disconnected simulation systems at the plant level and bring the data to the enterprise to cross-functional teams for continuous improvement.”

New enterprise capability in Mimic Train helps eliminate data silos by bringing training data out of the plant and up to the enterprise where organizations can use it in standard learning systems. Armed with comprehensive data, companies will improve record keeping, ensuring training requirements meet the organization’s standards. Enterprise teams will also be able to combine operational data with training history to explore how differences in training may contribute to performance disparities.

DeltaV Mimic version 6.LTS will also improve scalability. Options for subscription licensing via Emerson’s Guardian digital experience will make it easier for organizations to distribute and optimize licensing across enterprise architectures. In addition, Emerson has added support for DeltaV DCS virtual controllers while also increasing node support by a factor of nearly 10 to empower users to build larger simulations in a single instance of the software and make it far easier to scale up as operations grow.

The DeltaV Mimic flow tuner has been converted to a user-facing tool to enable users to tune models to their unique process variables, such as flow and temperature. Armed with the capability to tune models in-house, teams will reduce the time it takes to bring models into alignment with actual process performance in the plant.

All new DeltaV Mimic functionality comes as part of a transition to an LTS software strategy, more closely aligning the DeltaV DCS and Mimic software to ensure changes made to either platform are reflected in both, helping users more easily update and maintain their DeltaV solutions as part of a broader enterprise operations platform.

DeltaV Mimic version 6.LTS will be on display at Emerson Exchange 2025, May 19-22 in San Antonio, Texas.

Wed, 12 Mar 2025 11:30:00 -0400 Sealless, Magnetic Drive Pump Launched by Flowserve Innomag TB-Mag Dual Drive Pump is double hermetically sealed and features a secondary containment system to reduce impact from failure.   Flowserve Corporation launched the Innomag TB-Mag Dual Drive sealless pump to eliminate leaks, and protect workers, setting a new standard for safety and environmental protection that the company says is the first of its kind.

For chemical plant operators, processing toxic and hazardous fluids such as hydrofluoric acid or acrylonitrile requires safeguards to avoid potential catastrophic consequences for the sites and the environment. One such safeguard is using pumps with a secondary containment system to house liquid in the event of a pump failure. Historically, canned motor pumps (CMPs) were the only viable option because sealless pumps with dual-control systems include parts that wear over time and are susceptible to leaking.

The Innomag TB-Mag Dual Drive now makes sealless pumps a safe alternative to CMPs and other sealless pumps with dual-control systems because the liquid and drive sections of the pump are both sealed airtight, providing a true secondary layer of protection in the pump. By containing the liquid in the pump, the motor remains liquid-free and operational — the most common downfall from CMP failures. The new pump also has an additional layer of corrosion resistance for handling chemicals due to a nonmetallic liner that coats the pump internally, helping ensure leak elimination and creating a safety net for operators who process these fluids. And with only one bearing set, the pump is low maintenance.

The new pump offers all the same benefits as other similar products: ISO/ASME (ANSI) compliant, simple installation that doesn’t require specialty tools, low maintenance, solids handling up to 30% volume concentration. Due to its modular design, the pump can be enhanced by bolting on the dual drive unit or it is available as a complete unit.

Thu, 3 Oct 2024 00:00:00 -0400 Real-Time Valve Monitoring Solution Farris Engineering, part of Curtiss-Wright’s Valve division, launches inSure real-time valve monitoring app. Farris Engineering, part of Curtiss-Wright Valves Division announces the launch of its inSure Pressure Relief Valve Monitoring Device.

Monitoring valve performance is a growing need due to EPA Clean Air Act requirements. Devices in many organic hazardous air pollutant (HAP) applications must be equipped with a monitoring device to identify release and record time and duration of release, and need to immediately notify operators that a release is occurring. In addition, process owners can use this information to improve operational efficiency and reduce downtime.

Source: Curtiss-Wright Farris Engineering

This innovative device obtains real-time monitoring of pressure relief events by detecting valve stem movement and provides immediate feedback through CW inSure online app or Distributed Control System (DCS). The device can accurately measure pressure relief events and detect unstable flow in challenging applications to save costs and reduce maintenance.

The inSure monitor is offered factory installed and calibrated, or as a retrofit kit can be installed by a factory-trained technician on most Farris 2600 series spring-loaded pressure relief valves. Using a proprietary sensor array, the device accurately detects stem movement through the valve cap. Since there is no penetration of the valve’s pressure boundary, it does not require a special bellows configuration to isolate the stem cavity from system fluid.

The device utilizes Bluetooth connectivity with the inSure app to calibrate the unit, which also provides live valve status of pressure events, percent open, time stamp, temperature and battery voltage. The user can use this data to calculate mass of a relief event using the company’s product loss calculator. If connected to a DCS, the company offers three communication protocols to connect to the device: a wired 4-20mA connection, wirelessHART and wireless ISA100 options provide flexibility to the process owner.

The unit is powered by a long-lasting battery that is certified by CSA for hazardous location service. The default settings of the system extend the service life of the device. Under standard operation with the valve closed, the unit will take one reading per hour. Once valve stem movement is detected, the frequency increases to one reading per second until the valve recloses or five minutes have passed. If the battery needs replaced, this can be performed by a factory-trained technician in a hazardous environment in accordance with Farris’s certification.

Since this is an electronic device used in hazardous locations, the company obtained the following certification and approvals through CSA Group, a world leader in standards testing and certification:

  • USA/Canada: Class 1, Div 1, Groups A, B, C, D T3
  • Europe (ATEX): Group II, Cat 1 G, Ex ia IIC T3 Ga
  • International (IECEx): Ex ia IIC T3 Ga
  • Ingress Protection: IP66

inSure is helping Curtiss-Wright fulfill its commitment to providing customers with total pressure management solutions that ensure plant safety, cost-effectiveness and reliability.
