API Releases Statement on Permitting Regulation Introduced in Congress

New process could speed up approvals, create jobs.

American Petroleum Institute (API) President and CEO Mike Sommers released the following statement regarding new permitting reform legislation introduced by U.S. Senators John Barrasso, R-Wyo., and Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va.

“Modernizing our permitting process will speed up approvals, create American jobs and enable the faster movement of energy where it is needed most. Thanks to new bills from Senators Barrasso and Capito we are another step closer to bipartisan permitting reform, and we will continue to work with lawmakers to achieve durable reform for the benefit of all Americans.” 

API represents all segments of America’s natural gas and oil industry, which supports more than 11 million U.S. jobs and is backed by a growing grassroots movement of millions of Americans.  API was formed in 1919 as a standards-setting organization and has developed more than 800 standards to enhance operational and environmental safety, efficiency and sustainability.
