IMI has been selected to supply specialty strainer equipment for the Sizewell C nuclear power plant in Suffolk, England, supporting the continued deployment of EPR reactor technology in the UK.

The order is the second for IMI from Sizewell C and relates to additional systems for both of the facility’s reactor units. Together, the two orders reflect the reputation of IMI equipment in the sector. IMI will deliver a complete strainer solution for the two EPR units, including RIS and EVU strainers, and associated spares. The equipment will be used within the reactor’s cooling and auxiliary systems, playing a critical role in filtering debris and supporting safety injection functions designed to protect reactor integrity under all operating conditions.

EPR reactors are among the most advanced nuclear reactor designs currently in operation, with a limited number deployed worldwide. Sizewell C Units 1 and 2 will be the seventh and eighth EPRs to be equipped with IMI components, following installations at Taishan 1 and 2 in China, Olkiluoto 3 in Finland and Flamanville 3 in France. IMI is also supplying equipment for the Hinkley Point C EPR units currently under construction in the UK.

Luc Todo, president of EMEA strategic projects nuclear at IMI, said: “Nuclear reactors are some of the harshest industrial environments, placing exceptional demands on the performance, reliability and quality of installed equipment.

"The continued use of IMI components across multiple EPR projects reflects the importance of proven, repeatable engineering solutions in reducing technical risk and supporting the consistent delivery of complex nuclear infrastructure.

“Our ongoing involvement in Sizewell C builds on experience gained across the global EPR fleet and reinforces the role that qualified, safety-critical equipment plays in supporting long-term, low-carbon power generation.”

The project is now underway, with activities progressing as part of the long-term delivery program for the Sizewell C nuclear power plant.
