WEFTEC 2014: Bigger than Ever
The Water Environment Federation’s Annual Technical Exhibition and Conference (WEFTEC), the largest water event in North America, is expected to beat records for exhibits and session attendance that were set in 2013.

WEFTEC 2014, which is Sept. 27 to Oct. 1 in the New Orleans Morial Convention Center, New Orleans, brings together 22,000 people from 85 countries who are focused on learning the best way to ensure the world has adequate safe and clean water.
WEFTEC 2014 offers more than 1,000 presentations including 145 technical sessions in 13 different subject tracks, 31 workshops, 11 mobile sessions and 8 tours of water facilities, which include water and wastewater plants, as well as facilities that use water to run their operations.
Keynote speaker for the event will be Luke Williams, author of “Disrupt: Think the Unthinkable to Spark Transformation in Your Business.” Williams is a professor of innovation and executive director of the Berkley Entrepreneurship Center at New York University’s Stern School of Business.
Other featured speakers will address specific water and wastewater issues such as biosolids, collections systems, energy production, laboratory practices, leading edge research, utility management and much more. WEFTEC 2014 is held in conjunction with Stormwater Congress, a special conference on water quality issues in areas such as regulation, flood impacts, green infrastructures, stormwater research, financing and much more.
The WEFTEC exhibit is also the world’s largest show of its kind bringing together almost 1,000 companies displaying the latest in water-quality research, technology and services. The show also has specialty pavilions for stormwater, innovations and different countries. This year’s show offers special tours of exhibits for public officials as well as mobile sessions designed to allow attendees to move together as groups on the exhibit floor to compare different technologies and what they can do. These mobile sessions will focus on topics such as UV, disinfection, phosphorus removal and decentralized treatment. This year’s event also offers an Operation Challenge, a professional skills competition that allows practitioners to show off their innovations.
On the exhibit floor are companies from every facet of the water industry from chemicals and chemical handling to pipe and collection systems and pumps, valves and motors. VMA will have a booth at WEFTEC to explain how the association fits into the world of water and wastewater, and to answer questions about membership, VALVE Magazine, educational programs and more.
