Emerson, a global technology and industrial software company announced it has earned a score of 100% on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2022 Corporate Equality Index (CEI) and the designation as one of the Best Places to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality.
CEI is the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey and report on LGBTQ+ workplace equality, measuring corporate policies and benefits practices. Emerson is a part of a broad coalition of hundreds of leading companies that earned top marks in 2022.
“We’re proud to be recognized once again by the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index for our commitment to equality and workplace inclusion,” said Akberet Boykin Farr, Emerson’s vice president of diversity and social responsibility. “At Emerson, we are committed to a culture where our LGBTQ+ employees around the world know they are valued and respected for their experiences and perspectives at work and beyond.”
One of the ways Emerson meets this commitment is through its LGBTQ + Allies Employee Resource Group. Local chapters host educational sessions and participate in community events on behalf of the company. In 2021, the group was recognized by Out & Equal as a finalist for its “New Employee Resource Group of Year Outie Award.” In less than two years, Emerson’s LGBTQ + Allies Employee Resource Group has grown by 12 chapters and built a member base of more than 800 employees across 35 countries.
“When the Human Rights Campaign Foundation created the Corporate Equality Index 20 years ago, we dreamed that LGBTQ+ workers—from the factory floor to corporate headquarters, in big cities and small towns—could have access to the policies and benefits needed to thrive and live life authentically,” said Jay Brown, Human Rights Campaign senior vice president of Programs, Research and Training. “We are proud that the Corporate Equality Index paved the way to that reality for countless LGBTQ+ workers in America and abroad. But there is still more to do, which is why we are raising the bar yet again to create more equitable workplaces and a better tomorrow for LGBTQ+ workers everywhere.”
The 2022 CEI results show that 1,271 U.S.-based companies promote LGBTQ+-friendly workplace policies in the United States, and 56% of CEI-rated companies with global operations are helping advance the cause of LGBTQ+ inclusion in workplaces abroad.
